Tech Credit Union Employee Spotlight: Barbara Phillips

Tech Credit Union Employee Spotlight: Barbara Phillips

This month we are putting the Spotlight on one of our Calumet City Branch team members, Barbara Phillips! Barbara’s been with us since 2011 and has a great dedication to everything she does. “Barb is great at interacting with others. So she is a perfect fit as a Member Service Representative and Loan Originator. She is friendly and enjoys talking and socializing with others. Barb is proud of her Polish heritage while embracing the culture of others. We have had wonderful conversations about her family holiday traditions. She is a real People Person! As a quality team player Barb has helped rally co-worker support for new ideas. She contributes to the team with both creative ideas and organizational skills. Because Barb’s mantra is “I just want to get it right” she vigilantly prepares herself to be ready to serve our members; and delights when she knows that she has positively affected a person or family.” David A Larkin, Calumet City Branch Manager.

We asked Barbara some questions, to learn a little bit more about her experience here, what she likes to do in her free time and some interesting facts you may not know!

1) What do you like about your role at Tech CU?

There are many things that I like about my role at Tech. I like letting the members know that they are approved and may purchase that new car or even get a business started. It makes a change in their life and I know I was part of it. Also, watching the smiles on children’s faces when their parents are opening up their first accounts.

2) What do you like to do when you’re not working?

When I’m not at work I like to cross stitch and I ride my bike with my older brother on trails. It’s relaxing to me.

3) What is one thing on your “Bucket List”?

One thing on my bucket list is to go to Poland to meet my cousins that I have never met and see where my parents grew up.

4) When someone finds out what you do, or where you work, what question(s) do they always ask you?

When people find out that I grew up in Roseland they ask me if I know Polish. I am fluent in Polish and enjoy the music and fests.

When people find out that I work here, they ask me about interest rates on loans and if I could do a loan for them. They like the way I explain the process since I try to make easy and painless.

5) What about becoming an adult caught you completely off guard?

What really caught me off guard was the cost of living on my own. I never realized everything you have to pay for.
