Teen Volunteer Program at Hospital

La Porte Regional Health System (LRHS) invites high school and college students from Valparaiso and the Chicagoland region to volunteer at La Porte Hospital this summer!

During their time at La Porte Hospital from June 16 to Aug. 7, VolunTeens will work with various departments and shadow staff members. VolunTeens will get a first-hand look at what goes on in many different areas of the hospital. Some of the departments teens will be involved with include:

  • Diagnostic Imaging (X-ray, CT and Mammogram),
  • Laboratory, Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab,
  • Emergency Department,
  • Respiratory Therapy,
  • Maternal Care/OB,
  • Intensive Care Unit/Critical Care Unit,
  • Family Care Unit (Pediatrics to Adult),
  • Surgery,
  • Center for Cancer Therapy,
  • Continuing Care Center,
  • Physical Therapy,
  • Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit,
  • Social Services,
  • Medical Records,
  • OB/Gynecology Practice,
  • Pediatrics Practice,
  • Pharmacy,
  • Patient Registration,
  • General Family Practice,
  • Diagnostic Sleep Center and the Wellness Resource Center.

Director of Volunteer Services Denise Lamphier said, “La Porte Hospital’s VolunTeen program provides an excellent opportunity for students to not only volunteer their time, but also to gain valuable experience, knowledge and understanding of the health-related careers.”

Teens must be 15-years-old by June 1 in order to apply. Any student interested in the program should submit an application by Friday, May 15.
