Recently, Teresa Smith joined the team at Century 21 Alliance Group, and she brings 16 years of industry experience with her to the Valparaiso-based realty company.
Coming from a larger office, Smith is looking forward to the smaller, more intimate office and getting to know her fellow agents at Century 21 Alliance Group.
“I’ve worked in the past with some of the agents at this office that I like very well,” Smith said. “I had worked in a smaller office and I enjoy that. You get to know the people in the office and I’m looking forward to that here. I did a lot of research before I came here because I wanted to get back to that, sort of, family atmosphere in an office.”
Century 21 Alliance Group owner, Jeanne Sommer, also co-founded Lakeshore PAWS which was an attraction for Smith who is, herself, a dog lover.
“Jeanne’s rescue was another deciding factor, for sure,” added Smith. “I’m very big into dogs and rescues, and so far, I haven’t had much time to help out but that’s definitely my plan.”
Real estate is an ever-changing business, as Smith has seen firsthand over the years, and coming into an award-winning company full of experienced fellow-agents has been very beneficial.
“No transaction is ever the same,” Smith said. “There’s no such thing as a normal real estate transaction. There’s always some little quirky thing which keeps it very exciting. One recent home and transaction was the perfect example. In 16 years I’ve never had anything like it so it’s been great to be able to talk with Jeanne, or talk with Kathy (Bowgren).”
Getting to know her clients and helping them find the home that’s just right has been a big part of what's kept Smith in the industry.
“I really enjoy meeting new people,” Smith said. “You end up spending a lot of time with them and they turn into friends in some cases. You get to know people that you wouldn't normally meet and keep in touch.”
For many, the decision to buy a home might be the biggest purchase that they’ll make in their lives, and Smith knows how much weight that decision carries.
“You're definitely guiding people through the process and, in this market, you have to let them know that you can't think about it for weeks because the home will be sold," described Smith. “It’s a very competitive time. Whether it’s someone buying their first house, going through a divorce, or dealing with the passing away of a loved one, I do enjoy being there to help that person through the process.”
