Terrance Tooks celebrated as Associate of the Year at Porter Regional Hospital

When Terrance Tooks speaks, you can hear the smile in his voice, which is a good thing, because he spends a lot of time on the phone and talking to people in person. Tooks, from Merrillville, is being celebrated as Porter Regional Hospital’s Associate of the Year. He was chosen for the honor by his peers because of his unwavering commitment to keeping patients at the center of everything he does. Tooks is a financial counselor at the hospital. He is a strong advocate for patients in time of need, and has developed meaningful relationships with professionals at the central billing office so he can effectively assist patients locally with their billing questions.

The associate who nominated Tooks recognized him for his kindness and empathy, both toward patients and his coworkers. “Today I overheard his dialogue with a patient. Before she left, Terrance asked if he could pray with her. He came around the desk, prayed with her, and gave her a hug. Terrance is an awesome example of empathy that we all should have,” she said in the nomination.

The award Tooks received is part of the annual celebration that Porter Health Care System holds to recognize associates and managers who exemplify the qualities of exceptional patient care.
