Pearl S. Buck once wrote, “Some are kissing mothers and some are scolding mothers, but it is love all the same.” Mothers are interesting creatures. We love them, we hate them, we are proud of them, and we are embarrassed by them. But no matter what, they are always our mothers.

Like last year, I get to trade writing the lead cover story with my mom and give her an early Mother’s Day gift. For those of you who know me, Hi Again!, and for those of you who don’t, I’m Hannah Scupham. Currently, I’m finishing up my freshman year at VU. I may not have gone far away from the comforts of home, but everyone in the dorms gets homesick now and then. You may think that we’re ungrateful, loud and annoying, but when kids get to college, they realize how much they needed (and still need!) their moms.

So for this Mother’s Day, I’ve collected some great quotes from college kids about their moms. Here are some of the best:

My mom smells good.
My mom makes the best food.
My mom trusts me completely, but also knows never to take me seriously.
My mom sings to me – “You are my sunshine/You make me happy when skies are gray.”
My mom pulls the gum out of my hair when I fall asleep with it in my mouth.
My mom likes to gossip more than any of my college friends. That’s how I keep up on celebrity gossip!
My mom says some of the funniest things. She can always make me laugh.
My mom raps along to songs on the radio with me.
My mom gives the best hugs.
My mom always knows when I’m lying.
My mom can do anything. I miss seeing her every day!
My mom can manage time way better than I ever could.
My mom always lets me put my head on her shoulder.
My mom and I sometimes skip school/work/life together and go out to a movie or go shopping together for the whole day. It’s awesome!
My mom is a wise, wise lady.
My mom sends me cards from my pets, so I know they care!
My mom loves to brag about me. No one brags about me at college.
My mom has the best laugh. I miss it.
My mom is my best friend.
My mom is so awesome, I can’t even describe it.

Moms are awesome. And even when we grow up we still need you! So thanks, Mom for all the hugs, cookies, scoldings, tears, backrubs, sing-a-longs, shopping sprees, car rides, laundry washes… Thanks for everything. Have an amazing Mother’s Day!
