The South Shore Orchestra Kicks Off 10th Anniversary Season with Free Chamber Concert

2014-South-Shore-Orchestra-Carnival-PosterOn Saturday, May 31, the South Shore Orchestra (SSO) will raise the curtain on its 2014 - 2015 “Imagine” season with a free concert saluting the ensemble’s chamber music roots. The concert, entitled “Carnival of the Musicians,” will feature a whimsical lineup of duos and trios performed by the musicians who have helped shape the SSO’s 10-year legacy. These talented musicians have chosen pieces that will take you on a tour through different musical time periods and genres where you can re-imagine and discover the possibilities of an orchestra.

Highlights from the program include selections from Mozart and Saint-Saens, Argentinian tangos, contemporary music by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s Composer-in-Residence Anna Clyne and more! In a conversation about “Carnival of Musicians,” Maestro Troy Webdell commented on how this concert really has the potential to expand the SSO’s audience base, as he stated, "There will definitely be something for everyone to enjoy…an entertaining buffet of musical flavors for all tastes!"

Through the generous support of our community partners, Maestro Webdell and the SSO are thrilled to have the opportunity to make this kickoff concert free to the public. With accessibility being a critical component of the SSO’s mission, the SSO strives to share the orchestral experience with anyone who is curious about the art form. Whether you are a lifelong fan or are new to the classical music scene, “Carnival of the Musicians” is sure to be a hit for all!
