The Stars Align During Domestic Violence Awareness Month

CaringPllaceLogoMary Beth Schultz, Executive Director of The Caring Place, shares exciting news! Caring Designs, The Woman’s Club, and The Caring Place have formed a unique partnership. This is a major milestone marking The Caring Place’s 35th year of serving victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in Lake, Porter and Starke Counties. October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The Caring Place will open Caring Designs, an upscale resale furniture showroom on October 23rd at 9 a.m. at 3107 Cascade Drive, former location of The Caring Place executive offices. Over the past year and a half, The Caring Place teamed up with Margy Boyce, Founder and Interior Designer for Caring Designs. Margy and a group of energetic Caring Designs volunteers, furnish homes for residents leaving The Caring Place shelter, providing the women and children with a fresh start.

I wanted to make an impact in people’s lives using my skills in interior design,” Boyce said. “With all of the generous donations, I needed more space and The Caring Place wanted to develop a place where funds could go back to victims of domestic violence. A retail location where purchases will change lives made perfect sense.”

"Also, The Caring Place recently partnered with The Woman’s Club, a longtime presence in the Valparaiso community with a mission to provide housing to women. The Woman’s Club chose The Caring Place to manage the property and the room rentals. In exchange for house management services, The Woman’s Club provided office space for The Caring Place. This is truly women helping women,” Schultz said. The stars have aligned for three great causes.
