The Vikettes and Jr. Vikettes Show Their Spirit at the Jr. Vikette Dance Clinic

During the first week back from winter break the Valparaiso Vikettes hosted about 75 young girls for a three day “Jr. Vikette Dance Clinic”. This year more than double last year’s enrollment of participants from Kindergarten through fifth grade from all over the Valparaiso area. The Jr. Vikettes performed the routine, learned on Tuesday and Thursday, at halftime of the Valpo Boys Basketball game on January 11, 2013. Each Jr. Vikette received a T-shirt and green & white pom poms to help cheer on the Vikings!

The clinic serves as a fundraiser for the Valparaiso Vikettes, a spirit group that has been a representative of Viking pride for over 30 years. Many of the current Vikettes participated in the clinic when they were younger.

After the clinic, Collette Pfledderer said, “I remember doing this clinic when I was little with my friends, and now they’re on the team with me.”

Parents of the Vikettes sold handmade bows and other spirit-wear and volunteered their time to help the clinic run smoothly. Former Vikette and current coach Molly Phelps’ mother, Karen Malone, made and sold 20 limited edition “American Girl”-style Vikette dresses.

Coach Phelps would like to thank all the Jr. Vikettes and their parents for their support of the Valpo Vikettes and Viking Athletics.
