This Moment of Spontaneity

I woke up this morning with a bit of pep in my step. I was wide awake, and ready to attack the world. I guess “attack” is a rather poignant word. You see, I was up all night indulging in some of the finest zombie movies ever created.

My guilty pleasure: sitting with a pizza and a nice cold beverage, and watching the finest low budget cinema known to man. Imagine a caffeine jacked, pizza filled, 20 something, emotionally investing himself in the trials and tribulations of humans as they battle hoards of the undead. It is quite the spectacle. My excitement overflows.

I don’t think it was the zombie movies that have me excited this morning, however. As Labor Day creeps upon us, I have a growing sense of anticipation in my soul. I see a battle on the horizon!

This battle doesn’t exactly correlate with zombies. This battle is eleven men, proving themselves against eleven more. That’s right folks, football season is upon us.

As a former football player here in the region, I have a strong affinity for the sport. Seven years is a fairly significant portion of my life, and they were spent wearing pads and a helmet. I have played and covered prep football for years, and watching the Bears play on Sundays is a fantastic time to kick back.

Nothing touches college football.

For decades, I have graced the stand of Ross Ade Stadium, as my Purdue Boilermakers have battled foes from around the country. From my goofy costumes, obnoxious signs, and my neurotic traditions of wearing one particular pair of socks, I am -THAT- fan.

Ok, so maybe I have a little bit of a problem. The reason I write this is to explain that there is a perfect storm a brewing. Let me tell you about my week:

1) Wednesday: Zombie Movie Marathon. 2) Thursday: NCAA Football opening day (Christmas pt2) 3) Friday: Home opener IHSAA Football in our local communities 4) Saturday: Purdue opens their season at Notre Dame.

-Deep breath-

For a guy like me I believe this could be dangerous. I am already walking the line of troublesome caffeine intake, but add a triple helping of football, and things could get dicey.

I am debating buying yoga DVDs to keep myself level over the next few days, for what that’s worth. Me in a leotard stretching while relaxing music is playing in the background is not an image that most would willingly comprehend. Probably not a great idea…

I guess that I will have to just take my risks. It’s a gamble, sure. As a gamblin’ man, I’m sure that it would be worth it!

I would suggest watching the Purdue vs. Notre Dame game on Saturday. If you look closely, squint your eyes, you might catch a glimpse of me. I’ll be that oddly dressed Purdue fan in the nosebleeds, passed out from over stimulation.
