Three Boilermakers on NBA Rosters

hummel vs valpo2With today's announcement that two-time All-American Robbie Hummel made the Minnesota Timberwolves roster, the Purdue men's basketball program is well-represented well on NBA rosters entering the 2013-14 season.

Hummel, E'Twaun Moore and Carl Landry are all on NBA rosters to start the season.

After spending the 2012-13 season in Spain, Hummel was one of five players vying for the final two spots to start the season on the Timberwolves roster.

He returned from Spain to play on Minnesota's summer league team for the second time, then received an invitation to training camp, continuing to impress along the way. He earned a start and played a team-best 31 minutes in the Wolves' second-to-last preseason game against the 76ers last Wednesday night.

Hummel, who tore the ACL in his right knee twice while at Purdue, was a 2010 and 2012 All-American and is one of four players in school history to score 1,000 points, grab 500 rebounds and dish out 250 assists at Purdue. He ranks ninth on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,772 points and added 862 rebounds to rank tied for fourth on the rebounds chart.

The Timberwolves selected Hummel in the second round with the No. 58 overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft.

Moore has earned a spot with the Orlando Magic, the second straight season he made the Magic's opening day roster. Moore appeared in 75 games last year for the Magic, starting 21 games and averaging 7.8 points, 2.7 assists and 2.2 rebounds per game with Orlando. For his career, he has played in 113 games, scoring 698 points and dishing out 240 assists.

Moore finished his Purdue career with 2,136 points, 611 rebounds and 400 assists, marks the rank third, 20th and 10th, respectively on the Purdue career charts. He was named an All-American in both 2010 and 2011, and was selected in the second round as the 55th overall pick of the Celtics in 2011.

The Magic opened the season Tuesday night at Indiana, and will play at Minnesota, and Hummel, on Wednesday night in Minneapolis.

Lastly, Landry will miss most of the season after tearing a left hip flexor muscle recently. He played with the Warriors a year ago, averaging 10.8 points and 6.0 rebounds in 23.2 minutes per game. He signed a four-year deal with the Sacramento Kings in the offseason.

Landry was the first pick of the second round (No. 31 overall) of the Seattle Sonics in the 2007 NBA Draft. He has played in 389 career NBA games, scoring 4,611 points with 2,062 rebounds, averaging 11.9 points per game for his career.

Landry was a first-team All-Big Ten selection in 2007 and ranks 30th on the school's career scoring list with 1,175 points, averaging 18.4 points per game in just 64 career outings at Purdue (2005-07).

Entering this season, 32 former Boilermakers have played games in the NBA.
