TJMS Students Participate in No Name Calling Week

Thomas Jefferson Middle School students recently participated in the National No Name Calling Week, January 23 through the 27th. There was 100% participation in the week, including special groups like the office staff, instructional aides, media center, guidance office and nurse office.

This year's theme was Resilience- Live, Learn and Move Forward! Each grade level took a different aspect of the theme:

  • 6th Grade: LIVE your life with a positive mindset, treating people kindly
  • 7th Grade: LEARN from your mistakes and challenges
  • 8th Grade: MOVE FORWARD by taking positive action

The students took part in various activities throughout the week, such as giving free compliments before school, creating peace chains featuring positive actions they have done to help others this year and personal challenges they have overcome, and spirit days, such as "Walk in Someone Else's Shoes" Day and "Moving Forward" Day, where they children dressed for success in their future careers. The week ended with the Homeroom Door Decorating Contest. Each homeroom selected an inspiring song, poem, or book that demonstrates and supports the grade level's individual theme and decorated the door around that piece and theme.

Culver's of Valparaiso once again partnered with the school to reward the kids for their hard work by serving custard to all of those who participated!
