brokaw.jpgRenowned broadcast journalist and best-selling author Tom Brokaw will be the featured speaker at the Indiana Chamber's 21st Annual Awards Dinner on November 9 in downtown Indianapolis. The event is presented by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield; Ivy Tech Community College is the speaker sponsor.

Best known for his 21-year tenure as NBC Nightly News anchor, Brokaw now serves as a special correspondent for NBC News as he provides ongoing expertise during elections and breaking news. He has traveled the globe covering events that are history in the making and has interviewed many influential world leaders. Still, he ranks meeting the everyday American hero among his most powerful and encouraging experiences.

“Most of the people that I remember best, and I will carry with me to my grave really, are those whose names I don’t even know,” Brokaw shares. “They were young aid workers in Afghanistan for example or warriors in Iraq who saved each other.”

Brokaw focuses on the strength of the American people in books including The Greatest Generation and Boom!: Voices of the Sixties Personal Reflections on the '60s and Today and in his recent documentaries about Baby Boomers and America along Highway 50. He remains one of the most trusted figures in broadcast journalism and his work has garnered numerous honors.

In addition to Brokaw’s presentation, Indiana's Business Leader of the Year, Government Leader of the Year and Community of the Year will be recognized at the awards dinner, which takes place at the Indiana Convention Center.

A reception preceding the event, sponsored by Equities First Holdings, LLC, begins at 5 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m.
