VHS Compliments Page Makes Students Feel Good

Valpo-ComplimentsA Valparaiso High School student has elected to use Facebook as an outlet for positivity. The student created a “Valparaiso High School Compliments” page for students to anonymously send in messages and compliment each other.

“I happened to be going through some rough times and I needed to see the good in people, which they in turn brought out in me,” the page operator, who asked to remain anonymous, said.

Since its creation on Nov. 18, the page has skyrocketed to over 900 likes, proving that people have an insatiable appetite for good news. The student who created the original page hopes that the message can spread through the city as a whole rather than just the high school.

“I get about 50 compliments a day and each compliment is usually from different kids,” the page operator said. “They are so willing to help.”

The page did not receive much attention when it was initially created, but the concept really caught on over Thanksgiving Break.

“Once it sparked, kids really got excited about it,” the page operator said. “I wanted to draw out the goodness that had been stagnant in kids. Once they are willing to spread that good, the rest will be history.”

The success of the page can be attributed to the VHS student body as a whole. Students were eager to jump on board with making one another feel good.

“Honestly, I merely started the page,” the creator said. “It is truly those that send in the compliments who make so many people feel good.”
