Top-10-VL-Ent-20132013 was a fun year, wasn't it? There was so much to see and do and we at ValpoLife had the chance to be involved in a great number of those things. Theater productions, amazing concerts, delicious food, great people and wonderful parties filled the year with good times and great memories.

4. The Band Plays One Last Time for Longtime VHS Band Director Daniel Pritchett

On July 7th, the Central Park Plaza in downtown Valparaiso was packed with people of all ages eager to see Mr. Pritchett conduct one final band concert. The Alumni Concert was organized by the Valparaiso High School Music Department in honor of Mr. Pritchett's retirement. Daniel R. Pritchett has retired after 38 years as a conductor and teacher of the "A" Band, Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, Studio Band, and jazz improvisation. Read more...

5. Valpo’s Farmers’ Market Opens with a Bang

Valparaiso’s Central Park Plaza Market opened on June 1st to a large crowd of local and regional residents. Open from 8am to 3pm on Tuesdays and Saturdays throughout the summer, the Market sells a variety of foods, drinks, crafts and plants in downtown Valparaiso’s Central Park. This year, there are more vendors and booths than last year, with more to come as we further enter the hot summer months. 7. Valparaiso High School Brings Grease to the Stage

Valparaiso High School’s Drama Club showcased a generational classic and energetic musical Grease, which had its opening on Friday, November 22nd. The play tells the story of two estranged teenagers, named Danny and Sandy, along with their own group of friends, back in the greaser hay-day’s of the 1950s. It is complete with gangs called the Pink Ladies and the T-Birds, classic cars, dance competitions, and high spirited relationships. It’s a recognizable play due to it’s highly popular film from the 1970s, with songs that most teenagers know the lyrics to; it was a wise choice by the drama club to show their adaptation. 8. Harlem Wizards Shake the Town of Valpo

On Thursday, April 25th, the Harlem Wizards versed the Valparaiso All Star Team at the Valparaiso High School Gymnasium to raise funds for the Valparaiso Elementary Schools. The All Star Team, coached by VHS head varsity basketball coach Joe Otis, was composed of staff members from Central Elementary, Cooks Corners Elementary, Flint Lake Elementary, Hayes Leonard Elementary, Immanuel Lutheran, Northview Elementary, Parkview Elementary and Thomas Jefferson Elementary.
