1. Thousands Kick Off Thanksgiving with 2015 Turkey Trot Race
Thanksgiving and exercise don’t always go hand-in-hand, but in Valpo a tradition of how families have spent their Turkey Day morning for years. For the 13th year Porter-Starke Services hosted their annual Turkey Trot on Thursday, which gathers people from around the region together to run a 5k or 10k around Valparaiso.

The Visiting Nurses Association of Porter County has been providing medical care to patients of Northwest Indiana for over 40 years. Founded in 1970 by a group of dedicated nurses, the VNA is a local leader in healthcare with services in Porter, LaPorte, Lake, and even Jasper and Starke counties. Part of VNA’s mission is to “provide compassionate and individualized home and hospice care”. The dedicated staff and volunteers of the VNA are a significant resource to the community they serve.

4. 2015 Valparaiso Half Marathon Benefits the United Way of Porter County Power of Youth Council
Hundreds of runners and volunteers came together at Ivy Tech's Valparaiso Campus on Sunday, October 25th to participate in the 6th annual Valparaiso Half-Marathon, which is organized by the United Way of Porter County. It was a perfect day for this event, with cloudless skies, calm winds, and warm, autumn weather.
5. Porter’s New ER is Nearly Ready for its Debut
A ribbon cutting was held for Porter Health Care System’s new full-service 24/7 emergency room in Valparaiso. The new ER is set to open its doors to the public in two days on October 14 at 7am and is the third ER that Porter calls its own, along with locations at Portage Hospital and Porter Regional Hospital.

Porter County Community Foundation, Porter Regional Hospital, Porter-Starke Services, Fagen Pharmacy and Empower Porter County came together at Porter Regional Hospital to announce the expansion of the availability of the innovative and life changing Naloxone rescue kits to all Porter County police departments.
