Torch Club Members Fill Shoeboxes for Children in Need Around the World

DL-torch-club-service-project-fall-2012Children in need around the world will have a brighter holiday thanks to Torch Club members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County-Duneland Unit. Torch Club members collected items to fill over 30 shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child. The shoeboxes were filled with gifts, candy, school supplies and other items and will be distributed to children throughout the world through the Samaritan's Purse Organization.

Torch Club is a leadership and service group for Boys & Girls Club members ages 11-13. Torch Club members learn to elect officers and work together to implement activities in four areas: service to Club and community, education, health and fitness and social recreation. Developing health and life skills is one of the core program areas of Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County. Initiatives such as these help youth achieve and maintain healthy lifestyles.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County has been serving youth since 1971. The Clubs provide high quality programs for more than 5,000 boys and girls in the areas of character and leadership development, educational enhancement, career preparation, health and life skills, the arts and sports, fitness and recreation.
