For 50 years, Tudor Floors and More Carpet One has kept houses across the Region stylish and practical with their catalog of floors, carpets, cabinets, and other home furnishings. Through three generations, this independent, family-owned co-op has been about a lot more than just the family livelihood. It is their pride, joy, and the culmination of 50 years of community engagement.
“This anniversary is huge. It’s pretty unusual and unique that we’ve got the same ethics that we’ve had since the first generation to the third. That kind of longevity in any family business is rarely heard of,” said Jan Tudor, Owner. “We don’t make commission. We’re not trying to push a specific product to benefit our employees. Everything we do is to make sure our customers get the best quality for their situation.”
Their approach partly comes out of necessity.
“This is a very hard industry to shop in. It’s not like going out to buy a new pair of shoes,” Tudor said. “There are so many variables for every job, so we try and explain to our customers what would be best suited for them and their budget.”
Businesses are constantly shifting their models to accommodate new technologies or ideas. For Brian Stump, the third generation, the key to success is not changing your whole formula. Instead, you stick with what you already do best and take feedback when it comes.
“I feel we’re going really strong, and that’s because we’re honest to our customers,” he said. “Where we set ourselves apart is quality and service. We go the extra mile. If there’s a question we can’t answer, we ask our sales reps, we ask our vendors, we do tons of research and get back to the customer with the right answer.”
The family-owned approach makes a difference, and is something the Tudor founders take to heart.
“I’m just very, very proud for the family. So proud,” said Joyce Tudor Miller, founder of the store. “It’s been a long trek, and I’m so proud of where Jan and Brian have come. What we started 50 years ago is carrying on with the same quality. The trust from the community is still here with us, and that means a great deal to me.”
The Tudor family is celebrating their 50th anniversary with a big gift - a brand new location right off U.S. Highway 30. The new store just opened at the end of March, featuring a state-of-the-art showroom with the most current options in flooring, cabinets, and wall finishes. Of course, they will continue to provide the pricing, warranties, and service they stake their reputation on.
“It’s going to be fabulous. It’s so fresh, with better everything,” said Jan Tudor. “With the evolution of products, our old showroom just could not show them off at their best. And, this gives us room to grow.”
In yet another move solidifying their commitment to the community, Tudor Floors and More Carpet One shopped local themselves for their new location signage, commissioning Steindler Signs & Graphixfor the creation and installation. They first chose Steindler because of their excellent reputation.
“Our experience with Steindler has been top notch. They listened to what we had in mind, gave us options, and worked within our budgets,” Jan Tudor said. “The installers have been awesome – very professional. They kept us updated during the weather delays and communicated with us throughout the installation. We love our new signs and are so happy we chose Steindler Signs & Graphix,” she said.
Jessica Parks, director of financial operations at Steindler, said the feeling is mutual.
“There are so many benefits working with local businesses. One is the convenience of meeting face-to-face. Jan and Brian were able to come in, sit down with Bob [graphic designer], and go over their signage needs, which makes the process more personable. I always look forward to seeing the final product, but knowing some of Tudor Floors family made it even more exciting,” Parks said.
