Twilight Parade Applications Due November 19

duneland-chamberThe Hometown Christmas Celebration begins the Friday after Thanksgiving, November 23rd. The weekend is the Duneland community’s official kickoff for the Christmas Season. Festivities start Friday night with the Twilight Christmas Parade at 5:30 p.m. that steps off from the Chesterton Middle School and continues through downtown from Broadway to Calumet Road, Porter Avenue and returning back to the middle school parking lot. This year we have numerous entries including floats, fire trucks, horses, Boy and Girl Scout troops, clowns, trucks, trailers and walking groups; building the excitement of the Grand Finale of Santa arriving on the fire truck.

Before the Twilight Parade on the Friday after Thanksgiving visitors and guests will be treated to free horse drawn carriage rides provided by Buggies and Things and sponsored by Chesterton’s European Market. The rides, accompanied by holiday music throughout the downtown, will last about 10 to 15 minutes, go through the downtown area and begin at 3:00pm. Immediately following the parade, visit the Library Service Center (110 West Indiana) for a free marionette show, “Frosty’s Winter Wonderland.”

Also following the parade, Santa will be in his house in Thomas Centennial Park to greet all the boys and girls from 6:00pm to 8:30p.m. Each child will receive a coloring book, candy cane and coupon donated by Applebee’s Bar & Grill. Santa will be in his house every Saturday up to December 22 from 10:00 a.m. to noon and again from 1:00 to 3:00p.m.
