Understanding the New 21st Scholar Success Program

iyi-logoMore than 100,000 Indiana students participate in the 21st Century Scholars program, but while these students graduate high school and attend college at a higher rate than Hoosiers overall, slightly more than one in 10 students in the program graduate from college on time according to a study by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education.

In an effort to help school counselors, teachers, parents and students better understand the scholarship’s new requirements, the Indiana Youth Institute (IYI) is hosting a forum that will explore how to complete 21st Century’s Scholars Success Program, which will be required of all scholars starting high school this fall.

The Scholars Success Program has been designed by the state of Indiana to better ensure students understand and complete specific steps required to attend and graduate college. The plan outlines expectations for each high school grade level.

The forum will feature Matt Fleck, President of Fleck Educational Services, a firm that focuses on building pathways to college and career success. Fleck will introduce the Scholar Success Program and focus on how individuals and organizations that work with children can help students complete the required steps, report their progress, and be on track to complete a degree or certificate after high school.

The forum will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, at the Healthy East Chicago Center, 100 W. Chicago Ave., East Chicago, 46312.

As part of IYI’s Youth Worker Café program, the forum is free and lunch will be served, but reservations are required by Wednesday, April 24. To make a reservation, email Cynthia Rivas of Healthy East Chicago Center at crivas@healthyec.org or call (219) 397-6863. Reservations may also be made by contacting IYI Northwest Indiana Field Representative Stephen Gill via text at (219) 397-6863 or via email at sgill@iyi.org.

Youth Worker Cafés are designed to bring together local youth workers to build relationships and inspire collaborations that will benefit children. This Youth Worker Café is made possible by the collaborative efforts of the Healthy East Chicago, Inc, the Indiana Commission for Higher Education and IYI.
