U.S. Soldiers In Need

By: Contributor Last Updated: December 7, 2010

The 4th Grade Junior Girl Scout Troop #337 is conducting a drive to collect items for U.S. Soldiers beginning Wed. Dec 1st and ending Dec 10th. We initiated this service project based on a discussion with Tom Horn (Mary Horn's Dad) who has served and will be serving a third tour in Afghanistan with the Indiana National Guard. A decorated box will be placed in the classrooms with a list attached re: items needed. Our children should learn "the importance of helping others, as well as, the service these men and women are doing to keep our country safe." While they are away from their loved ones this is something we can do to meet their needs and to make their Christmas "a little more special".

We request no chocolate items due to the extreme heat there. Some of the items include: hand wipes, toothbrushes/paste, golf and soccer balls, hairbrushes, foot powder, trail mixes, granola bars, crystal light and propel dry packets to mix in water, magazines to read (popular mechanics/sports). Members from Troop #337 will be collecting items on December 10th from these boxes. To encourage the children......We are hosting a contest offering a PIZZA party for the room with the most single items donated. Each item will count as 1 item. Troop leaders will count these items and a winner will be announced December 13th. Party can be coordinated with the class Christmas Party Dec. 17th.
