Valparaiso Discussion to Focus on Competencies for Indiana Youth Workers

No-cost luncheon on Nov. 2 to outline the best practices when dealing with youth iyi-logo

The Indiana Youth Institute (IYI) presents a Youth Worker Café to discuss Indiana Youth Development (IYD) Core Competencies, which outlines the best practices for individuals who work with children and youth.

Identified by the Indiana School-Age Consortium in 2003, the IYD Core Competencies form the basis of a new credential available to youth workers in Indiana. This forum will give participants an opportunity to learn more about the credential and how earning it will enhance their work.

The café’s guest speaker will be Sabrina Gill, who serves as a School Age Child Care Specialist for Indiana Youth Pro in the Northwest Indiana Region. For more than 20 years, Gill has been a consultant for various community-based organizations, coalitions and agencies. She travels the region offering trainings and support services on the Core Competencies, Indiana Afterschool Standards and the Indiana Youth Development Credential. Gill is a Certified Family Life Facilitator and has trained over 300 families and youth in healthy relationships and human/youth development.

This event is open to youth workers, parents, community leaders, youth ministers, educators, counselors and others working to impact the well-being of local youth. As part of IYI’s Youth Worker Café program, attendees will receive lunch at no charge.

The forum is to be held Nov. 2 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. CDT at the United Way of Porter County, 951 Eastport Centre Dr. Valparaiso, 46383.

If you would like to attend this event, please RSVP to Stephen Gill, Northwest Indiana field representative for IYI, at sgill@iyi.org or by calling (800) 495-3219 by 5 p.m. on Oct. 29.

Youth Worker Cafes are designed to bring together local youth workers to build relationships and inspire collaborations that will benefit kids.

The Indiana Youth Institute promotes the healthy development of Indiana children and youth by serving the people, institutions and communities of Indiana who impact their well-being.
