As the majority of moms across the country were being treated to dinner or pampered with gifts on Mother’s Day, thousands of others spent the day living in shelters, thankful to have a roof over their head. To offer support and make Mother’s Day a little brighter for women in crisis, the national moving company TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® partnered with more than 200 schools and community organizations this spring for its Movers for Moms® charity drive. Franchise locations from 27 states collected more than 115,000 items for women living in more than 100 homeless and domestic abuse relief shelters across the country.
Locally, the Valparaiso TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® franchise partnered with Flint Lake Elementary School, Thomas Jefferson Middle School, Valparaiso Christian Academy, WLPR-FM and WZVN-FM to collect items, including food, clothing, toiletries and other essentials for women staying at The Caring Place.
TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® started the Movers for Moms® collection drive five years ago in Michigan, with 20 franchises collecting a few hundred donations for women staying in eight shelters across the state. Since then, the program has experienced substantial growth. This year, 102 franchise locations were involved in what is fast becoming a national program.
“The significant growth that Movers for Moms® has seen these past five years has been absolutely incredible, and each year we are thrilled to partner with the community to support thousands of women in need who deserve to feel loved and appreciated—especially on Mother’s Day,” said TWO MEN AND A TRUCK® President/CEO Brig Sorber. “I’m most excited by the passion our franchisees have exhibited for the program and their commitment to making it a success within the communities they serve.”
