Steffanie Long is Lakeshore Public Television’s “Athlete of the Week.” Long competes for the Valparaiso High School Gymnastics Team.

The sophomore won the all-around title at the Chesterton Sectional to lead the Vikings to the championship.

In an effort to commend high school athletes for successful performance on and off the field, Lakeshore News Tonight’s sports department, headed by prep sports expert Joe Arredondo, searches the region for outstanding student performers. Winners receive a custom plaque and a television interview to debut on each Thursday night’s Lakeshore News Tonight broadcast.

Lakeshore Public Television, along with proud “Athlete of the Week” sponsor Schepel Buick-Pontiac-GMC-Cadillac-HUMMER-Saab, has distinguished more than 60 student athletes since the segment’s 2007 inception.
