Valparaiso High School Girls XC Give It Their All at New Prairie

Valparaiso High School Girls XC gave it their all at the New Prairie Invitational.  Freshman Alison Mundell placed 7th in the top 15 with a time of 18:57.  This is a PR (personal record) for Mundell. 

Valpo placed 6th overall with a team score of 174.  Fort Wayne Carroll came in 1st with a score of 102, followed by Penn's 125, Warsaw's 135, Chesterton's 145 and Crown Point's 170.
Top 5 teams were awarded with a trophy while the top 15 runners received a medal. 

Coach Karen DeVries said, "We knew going into this that were are building each week.  We are building on goals and we are going to keep working.  We know where we need to improve and we are heading in the right direction.  We know who is going to keep improving and that's just going to make our team tougher.  This is a good invite experience and we are going to keep focused."

Coach Nellesen added, "No one trains for an invite, we train for State."

The New Prairie Invite was "started in the late 60's", said Tom Smith, math teacher at New Prairie High School and Race Official"This is the 44th Invitational and it just keep growing.  This course is a natural draw.  When we started hosting the semi-state meet, more and more wanted to come and have the experience of running this course."
