This Thursday night, Portage High School hosted the Boys Sectional Track & Field meet. The schools that competed included Chesterton, La Porte, Michigan City, New Prairie, Portage, South Central, Valparaiso, Washington Township, Westville, and Wheeler. All of the athletes competed well, but a few athletes had particularly impressive success in multiple events.
Keaton Olson of Valparaiso High School took the win in both the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meterhurdles with times of 15.20 seconds and 40.96 seconds respectively. Cole Raymond won both the 1600-meter and 3200-meter runs for La Porte. Matthew Streeter won the 800-meter run for Chesterton, and also helped his relay team win the 4x400-meter relay. Piere Hill successfully won both a race and a field event for Portage – the 200-meterdash and the long jump.
Despite the successes of all these athletes for their individual schools, only one school could take first place. Finishing in third with 107 points was La Porte, and in second place with 111.5 points was Chesterton. The winner of the meet, finishing in first with a large gap of 125 points was Valparaiso High School.
Congratulations to all of the individuals who competed on their amazing accomplishments, especially those who are moving on to the Regional Track & Field meet happening on Thursday, May 27 at Crown Point High School, and congratulations to Valparaiso for winning the Sectional title!
