Valparaiso New Superintendent Announcement

Mary Idstein, School Board President of the Valparaiso Community Schools is pleased to announce that there is a special meeting of thevhs_logo Valparaiso Board of Education on Friday, May 21, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at the Valparaiso School Administration building at 3801 N. Campbell Street in Valparaiso

At this meeting the Board of Education will vote on a candidate for Superintendent of Valparaiso Community Schools. A reception for the public to meet the new Superintendent will start at 4:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. at Valparaiso High School cafeteria.

Dr. Michael Benway has been the Valparaiso school superintendent for the last twenty years. In January Dr. Benway announced his decision to retire effective June 30, 2010. During the last several months the school board has had numerous public meetings and meetings with teachers and principals in order to develop the qualifications and criteria for a new superintendent. Earlier the board had announced that they received a well qualified pool of over 20 candidates for the superintendent position.

The new superintendent will join the board as they develop the district’s strategic planning process. Board member Jim Jorgensen stated, “Our new superintendent will help guide us as we move forward on our new vision of being at the forefront of educational innovation driving from excellence to preeminence.”
