Registration for the summer Discovery Day Camps is currently open at the Valparaiso Department of Parks and Recreation. The weeklong day camps are open to children ages 5-14 and are held June 13 – August 19 at Rogers-Lakewood Park. Discovery Camp, is for campers ages 6-12 (entering 1-6), offers children the opportunity to spend the summer outdoors, meet new friends, and learn a variety of new skills such as boating, sports, arts and crafts, archery, outdoor cooking, and more. For older campers, kids entering 7th & 8th grade, there is Ranger Camp where they learn first-hand about community service and volunteer projects and explore future career options, while enjoying hiking, boating, camp cooking and more. The hours for camp are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday; with before and after camp care available daily to accommodate parent’s schedules. The weekly fee for Discovery Camp is $74/64* (* resident discount). The weekly fee for Ranger Camp is $79/69* (* resident discount). Field trip weeks are slightly higher. The extended camp care is $15 for the week for morning or $25 per week for afternoon. Returning for our younger campers, is Discovery Voyager Camp for ages 5 and 6 entering Kindergarten and Discovery Adventures for ages 3-5. Children will be introduced to the wonderful adventures of day camp through weekly themed crafts, games, stories, hikes and much more. Voyagers meet Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. weekly June 13 through August 12. Voyagers provides an excellent bridge from preschool time to elementary school time. Each themed week will provide creative activities especially geared for children entering Kindergarten. The weekly fee for Discovery Voyagers is $56/46* (*Resident discount). Adventurers camp meets 9:00-11:00 a.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, weekly June 14 through August 4. Discovery Adventurers will meet at the Hickory Grove Shelter inside Rogers-Lakewood Park.
