The Valparaiso Police Department in 2010, for the first time, achieved accreditation through The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). Every three years the department must be re-evaluated (audited) to maintain the CALEA accreditation.
In early August, of this year, a CALEA assessment team visited the department. The assessment team evaluated general orders, interviewed department members, reviewed documentation that supported all of the department’s 489 policies and completed a lengthy written review of their assessment.
This past weekend Chief Brickner and members of the department traveled to the CALEA conference in Charleston South Carolina. While at the conference the department was awarded their third accreditation from The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.
Chief Brickner explained, “this is a great accomplishment for our entire department”.
