VSC Does Great at State Meet

This past weekend the Valparaiso Swim Club competed in the
Indiana Long Course Age Group State meet. The team was well represented by
Andrew Antonetti, Javier Arriagada, Tim Blue, Grace Cobble, Mark Memsic,
Trevor Stalbaum, Kaitlyn Steffus, and Jonathan Tripp.

The meet started off at a blistering pace. The 13-14boys 400 medley relay
(Andrew Antonetti, Mark Memsic, Tim Blue, and Trevor Stalbaum) set a team
record and tied for 13th place in the state. In the 400IM Andrew Antonetti
swam to a 22nd place finish, and close to him was Mark Memsic placing 23rd
in the state. During finals Andrew Antonetti set the second team record of
the night  in the 800m Freestyle taking a 5th place in the state and making
a ZONE cut. Trevor Stalbaum also swam for a lifetime best time earning 8th
place in the state and making a ZONE cut as well.


On Saturday, Grace Cobble went a lifetime best time in the 100m Freestyle.
She was so fast that she earned the 50m Freestyle state cur for this coming
winter season.  Kaitlyn Steffus placed 16th in the state in the 100m
Butterfly.

Swimming a lifetime best time in the 50m Breast and 100m Breast Jonathan
Tripp earned 2 top 30 finishes in the state of Indiana. Also during the
prelims session Trevor Stalbaum set a team record in the 400m Free while
finishing 11th in the state. Andrew Antonetti placed 12th in the 400m Free

Trevor Stalbaum set the team record in the 50m Free while leading off the
200 Free Relay (Stalbaum, Blue, Memsic, Antonetti). That relay placed 8th in
the state and set a team record as well. The 200 Medley Relay (Antonetti,
Memsic, Blue, Stalbaum) placed 7th in the state and set a team record later
that same evening.

On Sunday, Stalbaum continued his record setting meet by setting a team
record in the 200m Free. He followed that up by setting the team record in
the 100m Free to start off the 400m Free Relay. The relay composed of
Stalbaum, Memsic, Javier Arriagada, and Antonetti posted the 8th fastest
time in the state. Later that afternoon Antonetti broke the team record for
the 1500m Free.  In doing so he placed 9th in the state, earned a ZONE cut,
and achieved a Senior State cut.

It is safe to say that VSC had a very succesful meet. Our of the 106 teams
in Indiana VSC finished 28th in  the state overall. In the boys 13-14
division VSC was ranked 8th in the state.  VSC had 100% lifetime best times
for all swims this weekend.
