communities-of-distinctionThe City of Valparaiso will be featured in a segment on the national TV show, Communities of Distinction with Terry Bradshaw. The segment will be featured in 15 markets nationwide and includes an overview of the city’s strengths as a place to live, work, visit, and play.

“We’re excited to showcase our city nationwide,” said Mayor Jon Costas who was interviewed for the segment. “The hardest part of the interview was narrowing down the list of the best things in Valparaiso. We’re proud of so many things from infrastructure and our downtown to schools, business climate, and parks. They did manage to pack in a lot of information in under five minutes,” he said. Also appearing in the video and helping to tell Valpo’s story are Deb Anselm, General Manager of The Times Media Company; Mark Heckler, President of Valparaiso University; and Bruce Leetz, CEO of Indiana Beverage.

The video was shot in Valparaiso in August and includes scenes of Valparaiso’s downtown, Central Park Plaza, Valparaiso University, the ChicaGo Dash express bus, and Valparaiso public schools, as well as many businesses and local landmarks. The segment is narrated by football legend Terry Bradshaw, who hosts the Communities of Distinction show. It will air in markets including Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Milwaukee, Cincinnati, Columbus, Grand Rapids, Dayton, Toledo, Des Moines, Champaign-Springfield-Decatur, Madison, South Bend-Elkhart, and Evansville, beginning in February.

“Valparaiso has such a positive story to tell from a lifestyle and economic development standpoint,” said Patrick Lyp, Valparaiso’s Economic Development Director. “We’re eager to welcome new business and new jobs to our city and this nationwide exposure is just one more way to reach out to others,” he said. The Communities of Distinction video is available for viewing on the city’s website, www.valpo.us under the “Our Community” tab.

Valparaiso has been receiving lots of positive coverage lately as the Huffington Post recently named the city as one of the top 50 in the nation for attracting baby boomers. “We’re finding that the very same things that make us attractive to baby boomers make us attractive for all ages and for businesses as well,” said Mayor Costas.
