Valparaiso to Celebrate Arbor Day with Fruit Tree Plantings

Arbor-day-student-govt-tree-planting-2012Valparaiso will commemorate Arbor Day on Friday, April 26 with fruit tree plantings at Foundation Meadows Park. The trees are being donated and planted by Mothers & More of Porter County. The ceremony will take place at 10:00 a.m. near the Community Garden which is at 3201 N Campbell next to Butterfly Meadow playground.

Citizens of Valpo can add to the City’s tree inventory by donating $1 or $5 per month for at least a year through their household utility bill. By choosing to donate just $1 a month, the Park Tree Fund receives $96 a year, which just about covers the cost of one tree. For those who would like to contribute to the Park Tree Fund, a donation registration form can be access on the park’s website www.valpoparks.org or at the Park office at 3210 N Campbell Street.

For more information, contact Valpo Parks Department Horticulture Superintendent Steve Martinson at 531-4678.
