Valparaiso University Class Deems The Boys & Girls Club of Porter County A Wise Investment

VU-Boys-and-Girls-Club-5000-grantThe Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County was the recipient of a $5,000 grant from Valparaiso University’s (VU) English 396 Class, entitled "Traditions of Giving and Serving in American Life”. Their study of philanthropy gave students an opportunity to award grants for worthy charitable projects through funding from the Sunshine Lady Foundation’s Learning by Giving Program.

Students approached various Porter County charities and requested grant applications for special projects. A representative of the class toured each facility, interviewed staff for a class presentation, and then the class reviewed each grant. Boys & Girls Club of Porter County requested funding as a lead gift for a capital project that would enable the Valparaiso Club to resurface the gymnasium floor. The class ultimately felt the Boys & Girls Clubs of Porter County project was wise investment of their donor dollars and awarded them $5,000.

Nearly 2,000 youth are members of the Valparaiso Club that offers after daily after school activities that include homework help, tutoring, art projects, games, recreation and more; all for the yearly membership fee of only $25. More funding is needed to complete the gym renovations, if you would like to make a contribution please contact the Boys & Girls Club at (219) 464-7282.
