Valparaiso University Faculty Recital on October 16

Dept-of-MusicOn Wednesday, October 16, four Valparaiso University faculty members and one student will give a recital based on duos. The recital will be given in the Duesenberg Recital Hall in the Valparaiso University Center for the Arts.

The program consists of duos, or pieces for two musicians, some of them in unusual combinations. Four VU faculty members will be performing: Stacy Maugans, soprano, alto, and baritone saxophones; James Konsbruck, guitar; Ericka Grodrian, french horn; and Denise Kirkland, clarinet. One VU student is also performing: senior music performance major Nick McIntyre, on soprano saxophone.

The recital will include, among other pieces, Alan Hovhaness's Suite for Saxophone and Guitar, selections from Georg Philipp Telemann's Canonic Sonatas played on clarinet and soprano saxophone, and a new piece by David DeBoor Canfield, Five Mangled Expressions, for saxophone and french horn. Five Mangled Expressions was commissioned by Dr. Maugans in honor of Dr. Grodrian joining the faculty of the Valparaiso University Department of Music.

The recital is free and open to the public. Visit www.valpo.edu/music/performances for more information.
