Valparaiso University Releases 2014 Football Schedule

Head football coach Dave Cecchini announced his team's schedule for the 2014 season Thursday. For the first vu-football-cecchini-mugtime in program history, the slate will feature twelve games - six at Brown Field, and six on the road.

Valpo will kick off the season at Western Illinois on August 28th at 6:00 pm. The Leathernecks, an FCS scholarship program, are coming off a 4-8 2013 season.

The Crusaders will hold their home opener in Week 2 when Saint Joseph's comes to town on Saturday, September 6th for a date under the lights. The 7:00 pm kickoff will represent the 66th meeting between the two teams, the most of any opponent.

Valpo's lone bye week will follow before the Brown and Gold seek to exact revenge on William Jewell for a 36-34 loss last September in the Crusaders' 2013 home opener. The tilt in Liberty, Missouri is set for September 20th.

Pioneer Football League play will commence on September 27th when the Crusaders travel to Buies Creek, North Carolina to clash with Campbell. Valpo has won three straight over the Fighting Camels including this past season's dramatic 49-42 overtime victory on Homecoming.

PFL action comes to Brown Field on October 4th when Marist visits Valpo. The Red Foxes assembled a 7-1 record in league play in 2013.

The 2014 Homecoming game is slated for Saturday, October 11th. The Crusaders will square off against Missouri Baptist in a 1:00 pm kickoff.

Drake will challenge Valpo the following Saturday to wrap up a three-game homestand.

The PFL schedule will continue with road tilts against Morehead State and Dayton before hosting Butler in the battle for the Hoosier Helmet on November 8th.

Valpo will embrace the Southern California weather on November 15th when it heads to San Diego for the final league road game.

The Crusaders will host Davidson on November 22nd at 1:00 pm in the season finale.
