Valparaiso University Students Present at Annual Research Symposia

Valpo’s annual Symposium on Undergraduate Research and Creative Expression (SOURCE) and Graduate Academic Symposium (GAS) will take place virtually on Thursday, April 29, 2021.

Students representing each of Valparaiso University’s five undergraduate colleges, including Christ College — The Honors College, will present their research projects, scholarly works or creative activities.

“Valpo’s annual research symposia allow us to celebrate the scholarly and creative endeavors of our students,” said Eric W. Johnson ’87, Ph.D., interim provost and vice president for academic affairs. “This year we have a record number of presentations with more than 200 students showcasing the experiential learning opportunities offered to students beginning in their first year on campus.”

Nearly 100 undergraduate and graduate research presentations will be grouped in sessions by similar themes or disciplines. Research topics include the prevalence of plastic in local bird nests, how social media use affects eating habits and the relationship between air pollution and alcoholism. The event will also include performances by Valpo music majors and presentations of visual and digital art projects.

The event begins at 9 a.m. Central with remarks from José D. Padilla, J.D., University president. Student presentations will run concurrently from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
