Valpo Men’s Golf Rounds Out Fall Slate

Sophomore Caleb VanArragon (Blaine, Minn. / Blaine) led the way as the Valparaiso University men’s golf team closed out the fall schedule on Thursday with a dual match against Missouri Valley Conference foe Drake at Spirit Hollow Golf Course in Burlington, Iowa. The match presented one final chance to take the course against outside competition during a fall schedule that was reduced by the COVID-19 pandemic and highlighted by a team title at the Flyer Intercollegiate.

How It Happened

  • VanArragon carded a 76 (+4) to lead the team, while junior Garrett Willis (Fort Wayne, Ind. / Homestead) and freshman Alex Heck (Greenwood, Ind. / Center Grove) each turned in 79s to tie for second on the squad.  Freshman Mason Bonn (Sherwood, Ore. / Sherwood) also clubbed an 80 as freshmen accounted for two of the team’s top four scores.
  • Drake prevailed in the team scoring, winning the dual match with a 306 to Valpo’s 316. The 18-hole match utilized a six-count-four format with Valpo’s remaining golfer competing as an individual.
  • Tim Lim of the Bulldogs captured medalist honors with a 74.
  • The round was played in windy conditions, which presented challenges for golfers throughout the match.

Up Next

Valpo’s next event will take place when the spring season gets underway in February.
