Valpo Parks announces golf course rules during COVID-19 observation

Since the Governor and the Mayor issued the shelter in place orders on March 24, Creekside Golf Course has been closed to the public. This policy was followed by 65% of municipal golf courses in the USA according to a National Parks and Recreation Association survey released last week. Since that closing, Valpo Parks staff has been working on best practice protocol to re-open Creekside and open Forest Park within a phased approach for the safety of customers and staff. We have also now acquired Personal Protection Equipment that is appropriate for our work and that would not take away from needed priorities for essential workers and services. As a result, the Mayor, the City Administrator, and the Park Board President have agreed that we are ready to open Creekside Golf Course in a first phase that will require minimal staff /customer interaction. This will happen on Wednesday, April 22 and at Forest Park in a similar first phase on Monday, April 27. We will monitor customer and staff ongoing environments as well as the Governor’s and Mayor’s directions before moving to the next phases.
