Monster Dash 5K and Family Fun 1K Do the Monster Dash in your favorite costume in downtown Valpo! Both the start and finish of the Saturday, October 18 races are at Central Park Plaza. There will be awards for the top three Male and Female runners by age group in the 5K event. Price for the 5K is $25 per individual and $55 for a family of 3. Price for the 1K is $15 per individual and $35 for a family of 3. To do both events is $30 per individual and $65 for a family of 3. Register at Valpo Parks or over the phone at 219-462-5144. Race day registration is available at 7:00 AM.

Fall Party at Discovery Cottage “Spooktacular Fun” will have kids age 3 to 5 years old trick or treating and playing Halloween games in their favorite costume. The party takes place at Discovery Cottage on Friday, October 31 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. Price for city residents is $8; those who live outside Valpo city limits are $20.

Kinder Ready Class This Discovery Cottage program offers structured lesson plans and a full assessment program to ensure success for kids age 4 to 5, helping prepare them for kindergarten. Class is offered November 3-26 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 12:00 to 2:00 PM. Price for city residents is $84; those who live outside Valpo city limits are $96.

Forest Park and Creekside Golf Courses Golf both Valpo courses into the fall season. Forest Park has 18 holes with cart paths, pull carts or walking opportunities. Creekside currently has 9 holes, an outdoor driving range, indoor practice nets, plus two golf simulators with 43 courses from around the world. Youth Volleyball League Youth stay active through January and February with this coed volleyball program. The volleyball league for 1st – 8th Grade is 8 weeks coed league separated into 4 age appropriate divisions. Rules will be modified to help kids have a great time learning volleyball and being successful. Teams will practice once a week. All practices and games will be held at the Boys & Girls Club of Valparaiso (354 Jefferson St.). Register by December 12. Practices begin Jan 5. Game on Saturdays from Jan 24 through Feb 28. Bonus with registration is an annual Boys & Girls Club membership. Price is $65 Resident / $77 Non-Resident.

Broadway in Chicago Day Trip January 3 is the next day trip for a matinee performance of Disney’s “Newsies” which received 2012 Tony Awards for best choreography and best score. The day package includes a matinee ticket, motor coach transportation to and from Chicago’s Oriental Theater, and exclusive Suite Service prior to show and at intermission.
