Athletes from the Valparaiso University men’s tennis and men’s swimming programs were recognized for their excellence in the classroom on Thursday as the Summit League announced its 2018-2019 academic honor roll.
The men’s tennis program boasted six honorees as Brandon Ancona (Belvidere, Ill. / Rockford Christian), Franklin Brozovich (Fort Gratiot, Mich. / Port Huron Northern), Gabriel Carvajal (Pembroke Pines, Fla. / Broward Virtual School [Florida Atlantic]), Daniel Langston (Ponca City, Okla. / Ponca City), Chad Kissell (Latrobe, Pa. / Greater Latrobe) and Brian Pecyna (Glen Ellyn, Ill. / Homeschooled) were recognized.
The Valpo men’s swimming program placed seven on the honor roll in its second Summit League season. Valpo athletes who received recognition were Derek Eidson (Ventura, Calif. / Ventura), Brendon Johnson (Northbrook, Ill. / Glenbrook North), Dylan Kirar (Arvada, Colo. / Ralston Valley), Joseph North (Germantown, Ohio / Valley View), Rick Renner (Chantilly, Va.), Mac Sogandares (Reston, Va. / South Lakes) and Brett Strongman (Wolverine Lake, Mich. / Walled Lake Central).
Student-athletes must have at least a 3.2 grade-point average and have used a season of competition to be nominated for the honor roll.
