Valpo’s Art Walk to Host Artist Reception on June 22, 2014

Valparaiso-Vibrant-VisionaryThe City of Valparaiso’s Art Walk at Cumberland Crossing has been updated for 2014 with 16 new sculptures. To introduce the new pieces and give a bit of background on the project, Pines Village Retirement Community will host a reception and reveal at 1:30 pm on June 22 in their Celebration Center, 3303 Pines Village in Valpo, just steps from the Art Walk.

The reception will include an overview by Gregg Hertzlieb of Valparaiso University’s Brauer Museum of Art. The Valparaiso Art Walk at Cumberland Crossing is funded primarily by Valparaiso’s Redevelopment Commission, with donations from private donors including Centier Bank; Pines Village Retirement Communities; Excel Driving Instruction; Hoeppner , Wagner & Evans, LLP; and Joe and Laurie Mullett. The Art Walk receives additional support from Urschel Development Corporation as well as the Midwest Sculpture Initiative.

“Our city’s appreciation for art through the Art Walk, sculptures at our roundabouts, and on our downtown bike racks all adds up to create an even better Valparaiso,” said Mayor Jon Costas. “I hope everyone will get an opportunity to enjoy these 16 new pieces of artwork, made possible with generous cooperation from our city’s Art Advisory Committee.” To learn more about the Art Advisory Committee, including sponsorship opportunities, contact the Valparaiso Redevelopment Commission at 219-462-1161.
