Valpo Schools Foundation Annual Golf Outing Serves as Fundraiser

On Monday, June 10th, the Valparaiso Country Club held a charity golf outing to help raise money for the Valparaiso Schools Foundation. The Valparaiso School Foundation is a volunteer-based organization devoted to helping students exceed academically by providing educational opportunities and classroom supplements for students. Money raised by the Valparaiso Schools Foundation awards scholarships to graduates of Valparaiso High School for the continuation of their education in college.

The Valpo Schools Foundation also awards grants to Valparaiso teachers who apply for the grants. These special in-class grants will allow special projects to be available in the classroom and improve students’ learning experiences.

The Valparaiso School Foundation gives away in total, $30,000 in senior scholarships and $15,000 in teacher grants for classroom projects. Today’s golf outing will raise about $12,000 to donate towards these grants and scholarships generously given out by this foundation.

The charity golf outing event included a four-person scramble game at the beautiful Valparaiso County Club golf course, lunch and appetizers, and an award reception following the outing. Rob Thorgren, member of the Valpo Schools Foundation says:

"We are thankful that we have a great event like this that provides scholarships for high school seniors in Valparaiso and classroom grants for teachers. Without the community support and all the people out here golfing today we wouldn't be able to provide all these things for students and teachers. We are very thankful for all the people who volunteered their time and money."

Overall the golf outing had a wonderful turn out and everyone thoroughly enjoyed a nice game of golf with friends. Not only was this event a perfect way to spend a warm sunny day golfing, with your friends, but in doing so participates were supporting a wonderful and important organization that supports the students of Valparaiso in their future education.
