Valpo Schools Foundation Honors 2025 “Most Valuable Viking” Award Recipients

The Valpo Schools Foundation (VSF) is proud to announce the 2025 recipients of its Most Valuable Viking Awards, an annual recognition of Valparaiso Community Schools staff who go above and beyond to support students, colleagues, and their school communities.

Now in its fourth year, the Most Valuable Viking Awards shine a light on exceptional individuals who embody the values of service, dedication, and excellence across the district. Each honoree receives a $500 award and is surprised with an in-person celebration by VSF board members and school leadership.

This year’s five award recipients are:

  • Anthony Norwood, Custodian – Central Elementary School
Known for his positivity, work ethic, and pride in his school, Mr. Norwood creates a welcoming, well-kept environment for all students and staff.
  • Christan Fields, Science Teacher – Valparaiso High School
Mrs. Fields is celebrated for her engaging classroom presence and for supporting students beyond the school day by regularly attending their games, concerts, and events.
  • Charles Foster, Math Teacher – Ben Franklin Middle School
A respected educator for 38 years, Mr. Foster is a strong advocate for teachers and public education, and will retire this year after a distinguished career.
  • David Muniz, Principal – Thomas Jefferson Elementary School
Mr. Muniz is admired for his calm leadership, student-centered mindset, and his ability to build a positive, inclusive school culture.
  • Stephanie Truitt, 3rd Grade Teacher – Flint Lake Elementary School
Mrs. Truitt is known for her creativity, warmth, and ability to connect with each student,  making her classroom a place of curiosity and confidence.

“Our MVV recipients are shining examples of the passion and dedication that make Valpo Schools so special,” said Molly Phelps, Executive Director of the Valpo Schools Foundation. “It’s an honor to recognize them for the impact they make every single day.”
