The city of Valparaiso will celebrate Martin Luther King Day on Monday, Jan. 18, 2010 with a special proclamation reading on the steps of City Hall at 8:30 am.

“As a city, we wish to reflect on the history of civil rights in our country and honor Dr. King for the power of his intellect, the truth of his words, and the example of his courage,” said Mayor Jon Costas. “We wish to make a public statement that we are committed to the cause of equality,” he said.

The public is invited to participate in this brief, but meaningful ceremony.
