Valpo to Host Public Information Session for the Chautauqua Park Project

Chautauqua-Park-Stormwater-Project-BThe City of Valparaiso will host a public information session about the Chautauqua Park drainage project on Apr. 29, 6 – 8 p.m. in the Memorial Elementary gymnasium, 1052 Park Ave. The information session will provide an overview of the project and its impact on the surrounding neighborhood. Residents will have an opportunity to ask questions of the city and contractor, and share concerns they may have.

The Chautauqua Park neighborhood was identified as the city’s highest priority drainage project in 2009, as part of the Stormwater Master Plan. In 2010, the city hired DLZ Engineering to conduct a comprehensive drainage study of the neighborhood, including working with residents, to determine the best ways to reduce flooding issues that had plagued the surrounding neighborhood.

Plans were developed and the project was broken into two separate projects to be constructed over a period of two years Project A on the north end of the neighborhood is currently under construction. Project B on the south end of the subdivision (in areas near Memorial Elementary School) will begin in Summer 2014.

The City is committed to implementing the Stormwater Master Plan with the goal of improving stormwater drainage conditions in high priority areas. In doing so, the City hopes to improve the overall quality of life for its valued residents.
