Valpo Volleyball earns Living Generously recognition for Rin Seibert Scholarship

The Valpo volleyball program was one of nine Valparaiso University programs and student organizations honored for being an outstanding example of Living Generously during the “Faces of Philanthropy” event on campus. The Volleyball program was chosen for this honor for its work setting up and raising funds for the Rin Seibert Scholarship.

The nine programs and student organizations honored each completed a special initiative in 2019 which rose to the level of being recognized with the Living Generously honor. The Living Generously recognition is an effort to celebrate the generous spirit that is embedded in the fabric of Valparaiso University and to highlight the special works that take place in any given year.

The volleyball program set out to do something special to recognize Rin Seibert’s courage and faith through her battles with cancer and to thank her for her continued support of Valpo volleyball, Valpo Athletics and the kinesiology department. With that in mind, the program honored Seibert at the program’s annual Pink Game and set out to raise $5,000 through crowdfunding to award one student with a scholarship in Seibert’s name.

Thanks to the generosity of family, friends and fans, however, the initiative grew beyond just a single $5,000 scholarship. The goal has been extended to $50,000 to endow a permanent scholarship in Seibert’s name.
