Valpo Wins the DAC Crown as Malone Sets New Pole Vault Record

The Valparaiso Track and Field team won the Duneland Athletic Championship at Crown Point High School Thursday, defeated the defending champion Merrillville Pirates 154.5-120. The Viking win was highlighted by pole vaulter Nate Malone, who cleared 15 feet 1 inch on Thursday at the DAC Championships. For Malone, this is his third DAC title in a row in the pole vault event, while not only achieving a personal best, but a new Valpo record. The old record was held by Kyle Klein and Frank Wilson at 15 feet flat. Malone also holds the Valpo Indoor record at 14'1".

He is aiming to surpass this record by clearing 15 feet 6 inches at the Sectional Championship this Thursday at Portage High School. We encourage you to go out and root for Nate and the Vikings next Thursday at Regionals at Valpo High, and then June 5th at the State meet in Bloomington at Indiana University.
