Valpo Women’s Swimming Opens Up MVC Championships

The Valpo women’s swimming team started off the MVC Championships in Carbondale, Ill. on Wednesday with the first of three days of competition. The day was highlighted with the team moving into fourth place in program history in the 200 free relay.

How It Happened

  • In the first event of the evening session, the Brown and Gold posted a strong swim in the 200-free relay. The team of Trinity Springer (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township), Chiara Robinson (Castle Pines, Colo./Rock Canyon), Kenzie Conn (Celina, Ohio/Celina) and Mariah Sturdivant (Chicago, Ill./George Westinghouse Prep.) finished eighth in the event, stopping the clock at 1:38.09. That time ranks fourth in program history in the event and is the fastest 200-free relay by a Valpo quartet since 2009.
  • The Valpo women’s 400-medley relay team of Sophie Morelock (Milan, Mich./Milan), Mikayla DePover (Rock Island, Ill./Rock Island), Lucy Gascho (Lebanon, Ind./Lebanon) and Morgan Markley (Bluffton, Ind./Norwell) placed eighth, finishing in 4:10.33.
  • In Wednesday morning’s prelim swims, freshman Tina Berger (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) led Valpo in the 500 free with a time of 5:35.63. DePover led the Valpo swimmers in the 200 IM prelims, touching the wall in 2:15.15, while Sturdivant came home in the 50 free in 24.61.
