Valpo YMCA Offers Training Camps and Clinics

Get ready for the July 17th Valpo Triathlon! The Valparaiso Family YMCA offers 36 hours of triathlon training Monday through Thursday, beginning Monday, June 7th. Participants will train to swim 1/4 mile, bike 18 miles, and run 4 miles. Supply your own bike and safety equipment. Lake swimming will be included closer to the Triathlon. Swim Stroke Clinic

The Valparaiso Family YMCA will be offering a Swim Stroke Clinic for children ages 7 - 14. The emphasis in this week-long clinic will be to refine swimmers’ stroke techniques. All strokes will be presented, including starts and turns. Each day will include a lecture/material presentation, drills/workouts, and stroke development. Three one-week sessions are available June 14-18 (1:30-2:30 p.m.); July 12-16 (4:00-5:00 p.m.); and August 9-13 (10:00-11:00 a.m.). Register online at www.valpoymca.org or at the Courtesy Desk. Coast Guard Camp

A Coast Guard Camp will be held at the Valparaiso Family YMCA on June 21-25. Participants, (ages 10-adult), will train for basic water skills, physical fitness, and heightened swimming stamina needed by Coast Guard applicants. T-ball at the Y

A T-ball Skills Clinic for children ages 4-6 will be offered this summer by the Valparaiso Family YMCA. This five-week clinic will feature VERY simple rules that will help children determine whether baseball and softball are sports they want to continue. The program will consist of five, one-hour sessions progressing from learning how to throw and catch the ball all the way to playing a real game. Challenger Sports British Soccer Camp Returns

The Valparaiso Family YMCA is very excited to have Challenger Sports British Soccer Camp return this year. Run by International European coaches, this high-level soccer camp focuses on developing the whole child by teaching key techniques and technical components of soccer within a framework of character development based on respect, responsibility, integrity, leadership, and sportsmanship. Camp for children 4-14 years of age will be held July 12-16 at the Valparaiso Mennonite Church, 1305 Silhavy Rd. Ages 4-7 Soccer Clinic

An Outdoor Soccer Clinic will be run this summer by the Valparaiso Family YMCA. Children ages 4-7 will develop skills and learn the basics of soccer. The clinic will run on Tuesday evenings at 4:30-5:30 for ages 4-5, and at 5:30-6:30 for ages 6-7. The location for this clinic will be at the Valparaiso Mennonite Church, 1305 Silhavy Rd. Train for the Panic

Individuals interested in training to run in the Popcorn Panic 5-Mile Race on Sept. 11 are invited to join the YMCA 2010 Popcorn Panic Team. There are many benefits in being part of the YMCA Popcorn Panic Team, including weekly group training runs/walks that incorporate the walk/run training method, complimentary race entry, and prizes for the top money raisers. This team trains runners with little or no experience. Registration for the training program requires a $25 fee and a commitment to raise an additional minimum of $125. Funds will benefit the Valpo Y and Opportunity Enterprises. Participants must attend a meeting on Monday, July 19th at 6:00 p.m. Training will begin July 20 and end Sept. 9.
