VCA Baseball Improves to 3-1 with Doubleheader Sweep of Rival Portage Christian

The Victory Christian Academy Lions matched last season's win total (3) with a doubleheader sweep of conference rival Portage Christian on Saturday at Rotary Field. VCA won the mid-afternoon opener 14-3 and finished strong with a 20-8 win in the nightcap.

Nick Schrader started the first game for the Lions and earned his first career win on three and a third solid innings pitched. Schrader gave up two runs off of four hits, walked four and struck out three. Austin Thomas finished the game giving up one run off of three hits, walked one and struck out three.

Nick Schrader lead the offensive charge with four hits in four at bats with four RBIs. Austin Thomas had three hits, two RBIs and scored three runs. Calvin Reisinger also scored three times for the Lions.

In the nightcap, Calvin Reisinger pitched four innings, giving up five earned runs on four hits, while walking three and striking out eight. Justin Reisinger closed the game, pitching one inning giving up two runs on three hits, while walking one and striking out two.

Nick Schrader continued his torrid offensive pace with two more hits, three runs and four RBIs - three of them on a bases loaded triple in the first inning. Justin Reisinger contributed two hits, three runs and three RBIs - all off of a home run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Calvin Reisinger, Austin Thomas and Peter Guess all scored three times each in the game.

VCA plays at historic Block Stadium on Tuesday, April 12 when they take on the East Chicago Central Cardinals at 5 PM.
