VCA Baseball Rebounds Against Hammond Academy

The Victory Christian Academy Lions broke their four game losing streak by defeating the Hammond Academy of Science and Technology Hawks by the score of 9-7 Monday evening.

Nick Schrader started for the Lions (5-5), but only lasted eight batters, giving up four runs on two hits and three walks. Calvin Reisinger (3-0) earned the win, pitching five and a third innings allowing three earned runs on four hits and four walks. Justin Reisinger recorded the final four outs for the save.

The Lions jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning on four hits, including a double. The damage could have been worse, but Justin Reisinger was thrown out trying to stretch a double into a triple. The Hawks responded with four runs of their own in the bottom of the first, taking advantage of three walks with two timely hits.

The Lions tallied two more runs on two hits in the top half of the second. The score remained 6-4 through the third inning. The Lions would add two runs in the fourth and one in the sixth while the Hawks tallied one in the fourth and two in the sixth for the final score of 9-7.

The Hawks threatened to win the game in the bottom of the seventh, by loading the bases with two outs, but Reisinger got the Hawks' number three hitter, Cody Glass, to hit a soft liner to Austin Thomas at third base.

Calvin Reisinger and Evan Longhi each had three hits for the Lions while Justin Reisinger and Nick Schrader each contributed two hits.

The Lions play next on Tuesday night at Bowman Academy. Game time is 4:30 and will be played at the IU Northwest baseball field.
